Introduction to Salvadoran Cuisine
What is Salvadoran cuisine?
Comida
Salvadoreña or Salvadoran cuisine is a style of cooking obtained from the great
nation of El Salvador. Many of their platos tipico or traditional foods have a
heavy influence by the many of the Indigenous groups of Central America such as
the Lenca, Pipil, Maya, Poqomam, Maya Ch’orti’, etc.
Many
of our food consists of maize (corn). Which was an important ingredient to these
indigenous groups as it is to Salvadoreños. Pupusas, Tamales de elote (corn),
Elote locos, and Atol de elote just to name a few food that consist of corn.
